ORLANDO, Fla. (Aug. 8, 2023) — Orlando City B has transferred midfielder Alejandro Granados to Club Brugge KV of the Belgian First Division A, the nation’s top flight, for an undisclosed fee. Granados will join Brugge pending FIFA approval.
"We are very grateful for all that Alejandro has given throughout his young career to our Club,” Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi said. “Although we are sad to see him go, this move showcases the great work we’re doing within our Academy and OCB to develop players and ready them for exciting opportunities such as this. We wish Alejandro nothing but the best in this future.”
Granados, 17, appeared 26 times for Orlando City B in his MLS NEXT Pro career, 11 of which have come in the 2023 campaign. The Lions’ Academy product has tallied two assists in that span, one in each of his two seasons of play. Following the Club’s inaugural season in NEXT Pro in 2022, Granados went on to sign a professional contract with Orlando City B, taking his next step along the Club’s development pathway following his time with the Academy.
While with the Orlando City Academy, Granados helped lead the side to the 2021 MLS NEXT Cup title, following that up with back-to-back runs to the semifinals the past two years. In 2022, his efforts earned him a spot in the inaugural MLS NEXT All-Star Game, representing the East.
On the international stage, Granados represented his home country of Spain at the U-17 European Championship, helping his nation to a berth in the Semifinals. Throughout the tournament, he appeared five times, scoring what served as the game-winner in the Quarterfinal round against Ireland in a 3-0 victory for La Roja, a win that also qualified the side for the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
