LOS ANGELES (June 30, 2024) – The Orlando Pride (10-0-5, 35 points) defeated Angel City FC (4-8-3, 15 points) by a 3-0 scoreline thanks to a first half brace from Adriana, and late extra insurance from Barbra Banda. The Pride have extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games to start the season and 16 dating back to the end of last season. With 11 games still remaining, the 10 wins tie the team’s 2023 total win total and is the second-most in Club history behind the 11 they had in 2017. The Pride have also now won every match played at Angel City FC, holding a 3-0-0 record against the 2022 expansion side on the road.
Adriana’s brace counted as her first of the season, making her the third Pride player this year to score two goals in a single match. The Pride also got a late goal from Banda which served as her 11th of the year, tying her for the most amongst all NWSL players so far this season.
Goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse and the Pride backline earned their seventh clean sheet of the year which ties the Club record for most clean sheets in a single season, a record she broke last year.
Scoring Summary
20’ Adriana (Marta) - ORL 1, LA 0
The Pride were able to get on the board first, after Marta intercepted a pass in Orlando’s defensive half and carried it down the field. The captain then found Adriana to her right, who backed her defender down on the dribble before rocketing a shot into the upper corner from just outside of the box.
26’ Adriana – ORL 2, LA 0
It didn’t take long for the Brazilian to double the Orlando lead, capitalizing on a big rebound from Angel City FC goalkeeper DiDi Haracic. The play started with Julie Doyle sending a long outlet pass down the field to Barbra Banda who, after taking her defender one-on-one, took a shot that was parried away by Haracic, but Adriana was there to clean up the rebound for a first half brace.
90+6’ Barbra Banda – ORL 3, LA 0
The Pride sealed the match with Barbra Banda getting in behind the backline, fighting off an Angel City defender and dribbling around DiDi Haracic, as she was then able to tap it into the back of the net.
Head Coach Seb Hines:
”Very good all around. It is nice to come away from home and get three goals and a clean sheet. It is really important that we continue those clean sheets. It was nice to see Adriana get on the score sheet with two goals, unlucky not to get a hat trick. We caused them a lot of problems in possession, and I love the defensive effort. It takes everyone, not just the goalkeeper and the backline, but the collective effort to keep Angel City at zero.”
