ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 16, 2024) — Orlando Pride and midfielder Erika Tymrak have agreed to mutually terminate the player’s contract, it was announced today. Tymrak originally joined the league when it was founded in 2013 and has been with the Pride for the last three seasons.
“Erika has meant so much to the culture and direction of the Club since joining us in 2021. She has done so much for our Club, for this league, and for women’s soccer as a whole and we were so lucky to have her do so while representing the Pride,” VP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Haley Carter said. “She epitomizes what it means to be a professional in this league and has set the standard for so many other players to follow. Erika is someone we love both as a player and person, and we wish her nothing but the best in what she chooses to do next.”
“It’s been a privilege to be part of the NWSL since its beginning, and I’m so thankful to everyone who has supported me along the way,” Tymrak said. “I want to thank the Orlando Pride and the Orlando community for making this my home for the last three years. Thank you to the staff, to all of my teammates along the way and, of course, thank you to our incredible fans for your support. It’s time for me to move on to a new challenge but I leave with so much gratitude for the time I’ve had at this club.”
Tymrak, 32, originally entered the league after being drafted by FC Kansas City in the second round, No. 11 overall, in the 2013 NWSL Draft. In her NWSL career, she made 186 appearances and recorded 21 goals and 21 assists during her time with FC Kansas City (2013-17), Utah Royals FC (2018-19) and the Orlando Pride (2021-23). She recorded her 150th appearance across all NWSL competitions on March 30, 2022, against NJ/NY Gotham FC. She was named NWSL Rookie of the Year for the 2013 season after scoring a career-high six goals to go along with four assists during the campaign. She also played a crucial role in winning back-to-back NWSL Championships with FC Kansas City in 2014 and 2015.
While with the Pride, Tymrak made 61 appearances, scoring two goals and collecting seven assists across three seasons. Her first goal came as a member of the Pride served as the game-winner at Gotham on Aug. 29, 2021, which was a long-distance shot that led the Pride to a 1-0 victory. In the 2023 season, she recorded four helpers across all competitions while appearing in 19 matches.
On an international level, Tymrak was a member of the US team that finished runner-up at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. She would go on to make her debut for the senior USWNT against Mexico on Sept. 3, 2013. Her first international goal came against Brazil later that year on Nov. 10, 2013.
Tymrak played collegiately at the University of Florida and was just recently inducted into Florida’s Athletics Hall of Fame. The Lakewood Ranch, Florida native was named the 2012 SEC Offensive Player of the Year and SEC Tournament MVP during her senior year. She also finished with All-SEC honors each of her four years and currently shares No. 3 all-time in assists (40) for the Gators.
