Alex Morgan: “The Effort Was There Every Single Game For This Team”

The Orlando Pride played the final match of their inaugural season in the NWSL on Saturday night against FC Kansas City. While the match ended in a 2-1 loss that reflected some of the frustrations that the team has had this season, Alex Morgan and her teammates are looking forward to next season and are ready to do whatever it takes to improve.

“This year was definitely a building year… We did exceptionally well with the club and the staff and everyone to bring a team together and play as cohesive as we can,” Morgan said after Saturday’s match. “I think we’re taking it as a learning experience and I do think it will be much better next year on the field.”

“I’m really optimistic for next year. I know that the club and the coaches are gonna make the necessary changes to make this a playoff contention team,” Morgan said. “We know what changes we need to make… So, I think having a year under is good for us.”

While this season has had a lot of tough moments, there are also a lot of positives to take away. The team has found a solid goalkeeper in Ashlyn Harris, the dynamic duo of Kristen Edmonds and Jasmyne Spencer on offense, and of course, they have Alex Morgan as their team captain and leader. In the offseason, the team will look to continue to build off the success they have found and move forward to a fresh start next year.

“I’m really looking forward to next season,” Morgan said. “I definitely think we’ll use this season as motivation.
