ORLANDO, Fla. — Over the last 72 hours, Orlando City SC's newest signee, David Brekalo, has gone from the frigid winter of Norway to the mild winter of Orlando, Florida.
It's one of the things that the Slovenian centerback has enjoyed after joining the Lions on a deal through 2027 this past Thursday.
"I'm more than happy if I'm honest. It was a long negotiation, but thankfully it turned out well for me and for my previous club," Brekalo told OrlandoCitySC.com. "I was accepted well by my teammates; the facilities are awesome, and everybody who works for the club accepted me really well. So I'm glad that I'm here now."
Over the last few days, Brekalo has gotten a full rundown of Orlando City, including a tour of the Orlando Health Training Ground at Osceola Heritage Park and INTER&CO Stadium, getting a full sense of the club and its facilities, both inside and out.
"I think the players here get everything that they need," he said. "It's the same with me. I've been given all the conditions that I need for my development, and I'm going to take them."
The 25-year-old now joins an Orlando team coming off a season filled with milestones and firsts in club history, as now he looks to help the Lions add to their trophy cabinet in 2024 and beyond.
"The least fans can expect from me is that I'm going 100% every single day," He said. "I'm a bad loser. I like to win the games and I'll do everything I can to help my teammates and my club win."
Brekalo will have a few weeks of preseason to acclimate to the team before the Lions open their 10th MLS season on Saturday, February 24 against CF Montréal. Tickets are still available here.
