ORLANDO, Fla. (January 4, 2017) – Orlando Pride players Ashlyn Harris, Alex Morgan, Ali Krieger and Kristen Edmonds have all earned call-ups to the U.S. Women’s National Team’s (U.S. WNT) first training camp of 2017 from Jan. 13-23 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif.
“The players have had a good break since our last games in November and I know everyone is anxious to get back to work," said U.S. WNT head coach Jill Ellis of the 29 players chosen. “January Camp has always been valuable to set the tone for the upcoming year and it will be good for the players to get back on the field. For the staff, evaluation and performance remain the focal points during the 11-day camp as we begin a build up to the SheBelieves Cup.”
Harris, 31, led the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) with nine Save of the Week wins en route to the 2016 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year award. Harris, who made 15 starts for Orlando last year, has 11 caps and four shutouts over her international career.
Morgan, 27, recently joined French side Olympique Lyonnais for the remainder of the Lyons’ season and will join the U.S. WNT from Jan. 16-24 during the upcoming FIFA dates. The forward finished tied for first in scoring for the USA last year (17 goals) and scored four times in her first season with the Pride.
Krieger, 32, was acquired by the Pride in November in a trade with the Washington Spirit. Last year, the veteran right back helped lead the Spirit to the NWSL Championship and also made her Olympic debut in the U.S. WNT’s Aug. 9 win over France.
Edmonds, 29, had a breakout season during the Pride’s inaugural campaign, earning her first call-up to the senior National Team in October after leading the Club with six goals.
The January training camp will be a key evaluation period for Ellis to choose a squad for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, which – as the inaugural tournament last year – will feature four of the world’s top-five ranked teams in the USA (1), Germany (2), France (3) and England (5).
