Know Your Opponent: Boston Breakers

Boston Breakers

On Saturday, the Orlando Pride will return home to face off against the Boston Breakers. The Breakers are a young squad whose consistently is still being tested. Here is a full breakdown of the Pride’s next opponent:

Recent Matches

Boston had a strong showing against the Seattle Reign at the end of April, when they held the offensive powerhouse scoreless and managed to find the back of the net three times. But they haven’t won a match since then. The Breakers are coming off back-to-back matches against the Portland Thorns. After drawing 2-2 at home, the Breakers lost 2-0 when they traveled to Providence Park. Their overall record on the season is 2-3-2.

Who’s Hot

The Boston Breakers drafted Rose Lavelle at the #1 slot in the 2017 NWSL Draft. And Lavelle has performed. She has two goals and an assist in her seven games. She is a playmaker for the Breakers, creating opportunities up front. Natasha Dowie has also proven critical to the Breakers success with three goals and one assist.

Who’s Not

Despite Boston’s strong talent, they have struggled to perform consistently. Their midfield has been shutout twice in their last five matches. While they have certainly faced tough opponents-- the Reign, the Courage, the Red Stars, and the Thorns-- they have also failed to get a shutout since that match against Seattle.

Head-to-Head

The Pride split points with Boston last year, defeating them 3-1 when the Breakers traveled to Orlando and losing to them 1-0 when the Pride made the trip to Boston. Boston finished last season at the bottom of the table, eight points behind the Pride, but they are looking to change that narrative this season.
