Know Your Opponent: FC Kansas City

KTE FCKC

This weekend, the Orlando Pride will return to Orlando City Stadium to host FC Kansas City for their second matchup of the season. The Pride drew 2-2 against the Washington Spirit on the road last weekend, and are looking to keep the positive results trending. Here is everything you need to know about FC Kansas City.

Recent Matches

FC Kansas City are winless in their last five matches. No one can blame them for being unable to contain Sam Kerr’s magical hat trick in the match last weekend, but the loss to Sky Blue FC last week was not unique. They have lost their last three matches and are 0-3-2 in their last five games.

Who’s Hot

They haven’t had a consistent goal-scorer this season, but Christina Gibbons has found one goal and two assists in the last two matches. Attacking midfielder Shea Groom always poses a threat, but she will miss the match after receiving a red card in last weekend’s match against Sky Blue FC. U.S Women’s National Team player Sydney Leroux, who returns to FC Kansas City after taking a year off to have a child, is the team’s leading goal-scorer with three goals this season, but she has failed to score in their last five.

Who’s Not

One of the biggest problems FC Kansas City has had is maintaining leads. In their game against Sky Blue FC, they led 2-0 before Sam Kerr scored a hat trick in under fifteen minutes to give her team the win. They also scored first in their 2-1 loss against the Houston Dash and their back-to-back draws against the Seattle Reign. In fact, the only match in their last five where FC Kansas City have not scored first is the one where they failed to score: a 3-0 loss to the Portland Thorns.

Head-to-Head

Earlier this year, the Pride traveled to Kansas City and drew 1-1, with goals from Marta and Erika Tymrak. Last season, the Pride lost both of their matches to FC Kansas City.
