Know Your Opponent: North Carolina Courage

KTW Courage

The Orlando Pride take on the newly formed North Carolina Courage on Saturday at 4pm ET. You can watch via the go90 app or online here

Recent Matches

The North Carolina Courage, formerly the Western New York Flash, have proven that they can face strong opponents. They’ve won their first two matches 1-0 and they weren’t against easy opponents. In Week One, the Courage faced a rematch of last year’s NWSL Championship against the Washington Spirit. In Week Two, North Carolina took down the Portland Thorns.

Who’s Hot

They have yet to allow a goal this season, earning two clean sheets in their first two matches. While their team features superstars like Lynn Williams and Jessica McDonald, who scored eleven and ten goals respectively last season, it’s been newcomer Debinha and midfielder McCall Zerboni that have scored the team’s first two goals of the season.

Players To Watch

The NC Courage roster doesn’t feature a lot of international players, but don’t let that fool you. Both Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams are members of the U.S Women’s National Team, and Williams won last year’s Golden Boot. Jessica McDonald, the team’s other star striker, scored ten goals in twenty appearances last season. And they have almost the same backline that brought them the championship last season, safe for one critical player-- Alanna Kennedy-- who is wearing purple this season.

Head-To-Head

The Orlando Pride won one match and lost one match against the Courage last year (at the time the Western New York Flash).
