Orlando City SC Acquires Defender Danilo Acosta on Loan

Orlando City SC acquires defender Danilo Acosta on loan from Real Salt Lake with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the 2019 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, in exchange for $75,000 of General Allocation Money.

“Danilo is a young, talented player who brings national team experience to our roster,” said Orlando City SC EVP of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi. “He has the qualities and character we are looking for in a left back and are excited to bring him on board and start working with him for the preseason.”

Acosta, 21, joins City after two seasons with Real Salt Lake, where he logged 2,307 minutes across 29 matches. He has four career assists in MLS.

The Honduran born defender is a graduate of the Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy and was signed as a Homegrown Player in December 2015. He played for the Monarchs in the USL for the 2016 season, recording 1,135 minutes across 19 matches.

At the national level, Acosta has made 16 appearances for the United States U-20s. During that span, he won the 2017 CONCACAF U-20s Championship - scoring the game-winning penalty in the final against his home country of Honduras - and represented the United States at the 2017 U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
