Welcome to the Pride Land
Sky Blue FC is the only team in the NWSL that the Orlando Pride have yet to play this season. The last time these two clubs faced each other, the Pride defeated Sky Blue 5-0, marking the first time the team had scored five goals in a single match. The only other time Orlando has scored five goals was this season on May 26 against the Chicago Red Stars, a 5-2 win. In the last match against Sky Blue, Alex Morgan and Marta both recorded a brace and Dani Weatherholt scored her first goal as a member of the Pride. Her second goal was scored during the previous Red Stars game.
Kop Makes Stops
Haley Kopmeyer made her first appearance for the Orlando Pride on June 3 against her former team, Seattle Reign FC. The goalkeeper made five saves to record her 12th career clean sheet and the Club’s fourth of the season. Her save in the 51st minute was awarded the NWSL’s Save of the Week as voted by fans.
Rocket Woman
Christine Nairn has now recorded 19 goals and 19 assists over her NWSL career. In her first year with the Pride, Nairn has scored a goal and tallied three assists. Along with teammate Marta, Nairn’s three assists are tied for the most in the league. Nairn’s 19 career assist are also the most in NWSL history.
Feel The Goals Tonight
Orlando Pride are currently 2-2-1 against Sky Blue FC, with the previous two matches resulting in wins for the Pride. In the last two matches, Orlando outscored Sky Blue 8-2 with goals from Marta (3), Alex Morgan (2), Rachel Hill (1), Chioma Ubogagu (1) and Dani Weatherholt (1).
Back In Action
After sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament tear (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain in her right knee on Sept. 30, 2017, defender Camila will be available for selection for the first time in eight months against Sky Blue FC. Prior to her injury, Camila appeared in every match for the Pride in 2017 and recorded four goals and five assists. Prior to Orlando, Camila made 12 appearances for the Houston Dash.
We All Stand Together
Orlando Pride’s match against Sky Blue FC will be part of the Club’s “Pride in Our City” campaign to celebrate Pride month and to honor and remember the victims of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy that took the lives of 49 people and impacted countless others two years ago. Five local nonpro t organizations - One Orlando Alliance, The Dru Project, onePULSE Foundation, Zebra Coalition and Contigo Fund - will receive a portion of ticket and merchandise proceeds. In addition, the Pride will wear commemorative rainbow numbers on their jerseys to be auctioned off following the match by the Orlando City Foundation, which will use the fund for future LGBTQ+ related efforts.
Take a Break
During the international break, three Orlando Pride players received minutes with their respective national teams. Alex Morgan and Ashlyn Harris both appeared for the U.S. WNT on June 7 and June 12 against China. Morgan started in both matches and scored the game-winning goal in the first match of the series. Harris got the start for the U.S. in the second match and made a crucial save to secure the team’s 2-1 win. Her save was recognized as No. 8 on SportsCenter’s Top Ten. Defender Shelina Zadorsky played all 90 minutes in Canada’s match against Germany, a 3-2 loss to the No. 3 team in the world.
