Here are five storylines to watch for Wednesday's matchup vs Chicago Fire FC:
Back at Home
Orlando City returns to Inter&Co Stadium looking to build on a resilient performance against FC Cincinnati. Facing the league leaders, the Lions battled back to earn a 1-1 draw and became the first team since April to keep MVP candidate Evander from recording either a goal or an assist. With 15 matches remaining in the regular season, Orlando now turns its attention to a stretch of home fixtures where every point will be crucial in the Eastern Conference race. The Lions have historically enjoyed success against Chicago at home, posting a 5W-3L-3D record at Inter.co Stadium and its predecessor venues.
Griezmann vs. Lewandowski
Two of world soccer’s most recognizable stars are set to share an MLS field for the first time on Wednesday night in Orlando City SC's Antoine Griezmann and Chicago Fire’s Robert Lewandowski. While the pair faced each other numerous times in Spain and Germany and also met in international competition, Wednesday’s match marks their first meeting since both arrived in Major League Soccer. With Griezmann orchestrating Orlando's attack and Lewandowski leading the line for Chicago, the matchup adds another marquee storyline to a key Eastern Conference clash.
Spicer Stays Hot
Few players in MLS have been as productive as Tyrese Spicer over the last month. The Trinidad and Tobago international extended his goal contribution streak to five matches across all competitions with the equalizing goal against FC Cincinnati on Saturday night. During that stretch, Spicer has tallied four goals and three assists, helping drive Orlando City's attack during a critical point in the season. His latest strike brought him to seven goals and five assists across all competitions in 2026, while his nine career goals for the Lions continue to establish the winger as one of the Club's emerging offensive threats.
Defensive Improvements
While Orlando City's attack continues to produce chances, the Club's recent defensive form has quietly become one of the biggest reasons for its success. The Lions limited FC Cincinnati to just one goal over the weekend, becoming the first team since April to keep MVP candidate Evander from recording either a goal or an assist. Orlando has conceded only nine goals in seven matches across all competitions since returning from the World Cup break, allowing just 1.29 goals per game during that span, marking a significant turnaround from the team's first 18 matches of the MLS season.
Chasing Club History
A pair of Orlando City attackers continue to climb the Club's all-time rankings. Iván Angulo reached a major milestone against Cincinnati, recording his 40th assist across all competitions to become just the third player in Club history to hit that mark, joining Martín Ojeda and former captain Mauricio Pereyra. Meanwhile, Daryl Dike continues his pursuit of Orlando City's all-time scoring leaderboard. The striker sits on 20 goals for the Lions and is one strike away from tying former forward Tesho Akindele for 10th place in Club history. With Marco Pašalić also sitting two goals shy of 20 for the Club, several Lions could add their names to the record books in the coming weeks.
Milestone Tracker
- Martín Ojeda needs three goals to tie Facundo Torres’ club record of 47 across all competitions. Ojeda also is five assists from matching Mauricio Pereyra’s club record of 47.
- Daryl Dike is one goal away from tying former Lion Tesho Akindele (21) for 10th on the Club’s all-time scoring charts.
- Robin Jansson is two starts away from 250 as a Lion in all competitions.
